Translation & Tech
Since its beginnings in 2008, HUMANA has been collaborating in the software localization project of the Ukrainian company AIT, specializing in the development of specific programs for translation agencies and freelance translators.
These are programs used as help tools, such as PROJETEX 3D, AnyCount, TO3000 and AceProof, designed to optimize translation project management tasks as well as quality control of translations.
This type of services is particularly emblematic for the volume of words or the types of text to be translated, as they are an effort by Humana to improve the management of it own projects. They entail the implementation of a series of the latest IT resources and workflow management in terms of quality control of the final product, the use of specific translation software, networking and cloud-run project management during development. All these forms of work in the modern translation tool shed give support to the use of auxiliary tools of what has been called as Computer Aided Translation (CAT).
Thus, software placement is an example of the changes in the execution of project management tasks and translator teams in small and large tasks, where new translation technologies play a fundamental role that fundamentally changes the way to work from the time of the paper dictionaries and the handwritten sheets. New technologies are viable nowadays thanks to advances in the field of Computer Science applied to Linguistics. This has allowed us to handle large amounts of text while creating databases (translation memories, glossaries and text corpus) and a final verification of the translation based on information technology.
The use of these technological tools represents high level of investment in terms of the time devoted to constant qualification and updating, with the consequent economic cost involved, as the industry around the TAC programs becomes more complex and, at the same time, more relevant for professionals. Albeit the costs, the use of these programs allows for a reduction of the timelines of service, fostering a faster production pace of large volumes of text that, in turn, allow gains in competitiveness in the market and reduction of costs, all of which can be benefit the customer.
Regarding the development of a translation order, and to enable high quality translation performance, reference should be made to the specific standards defined for the different stages through which each order passes. The quality control processes employed by HUMANA described below give an idea of the management tasks implied in them where the quality control is used in a transversal way and starts when the order is made and until the delivery of the service.

To guarantee the quality throughout its management and until the final translation, once the service is commissioned, a system of different levels is established, following a series of different steps.
Once the service is commissioned, aiming to guarantee the quality throughout its management and until the final translation, a system of different levels is established, following the following steps:
Selection of the translation team;
Workflow where a cross-checking system with peer review is guaranteed;
Use of the most cutting-edge technology for content management, documentation management and reporting;
A project management system that ensures that all customer demands are met, allowing a quick response to last-minute requests or unmarked changes.
More specifically, the Principles and Methodology of Translation Quality Management that the company adopts are as follows:
- With regard to the choice of the translator, the following questions are answered: what qualifications should the person receiving the translation order have? What experience in translation or in the specific area of the order? Has he or she translated over the last few years?
In this way, the configuration of the translation team is made according to the specific needs of the project and represents the first step towards an efficient and solid Translation Quality Management;
In relation to the technologies, the choice of the most appropriate CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tool will be made according to project specifications, number of participants and work system. In general, the company uses the most advanced technologies in Translation Memories and Terminology Management, such as the memoQ software or the Smartcat network work platform. In both cases the programs allow the same sentences to be translated identically and the terminology is consistently used throughout the project, even if different translators work in different parts of the same text;
- On the editing process, aiming to minimize the possibility of errors and omissions in information or language, the same text goes through a translator and a reviewer, native professionals of the target language, who possess the specific qualifications necessary to the project;
With respect to the Translation Project Management, the following guidelines are followed:
the adequacy of the flow of the translation process to the specific needs of the client;
The preparation and monitoring of quality control lists;
proactive communication with the client for the solution of linguistic or technical issues;
the maintenance of glossaries and multilingual translation memories specific to each project;
- o The collection of individual documentation of the project history.
